Cher

Big of hair and talent, short of skirt and devoid of the ability to be anything but her own magnificently sexadelic self, Cher‘s charisma and cojones propelled a career that’s spanned four decades and counting. Born Cherilyn Sarkisian, Cher initially rose to superstardom first by way of Sonny and Cher, her pop music duo with then husband Sonny Bono. The couple scored a series of monster #1 hits, including their signature duet, “I Got You Babe,” before translating the act to one of the highest-rated TV variety shows of the ’70s, Sonny & Cher. Cher also topped the charts repeatedly as a solo act during that period, creating the most monumental trio of gothic-pop singles ever recorded — “Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves;” “Half-Breed;” and “Dark Lady.” And, ever since then, Cher has reigned as “The Goddess of Pop” with resplendent grace, in-your-face attitude, and nuclear-strength sexuality that has only compounded and exploded more transcendentally through the years. During her wild 1970s phase, Cher was consistently chided in the press by obvious female haters as one of the “worst dressed” celebrities for her sexed-up vixen wear and tattoos, as well as being criticized for her brilliantly acidic tongue and lusty taste for rock-‘n’-roll bad boys on the order of Gene Simmons and Greg Allman, this dark lady has ultimately had the last laugh. Known as “She Who Sings for Bathhouse Boys” to a tribe of Will & Grace lovers, Cher is most beloved and imitated for her lustful lungs and ostentatious nature. Cher continues to from singles during her Sonny Bono co-singing days, and in a day where teeny queens rule, this seasoned squaw has stayed on the warpath to success with latter-day mega hits such as “If I Could Turn Back Time” and “Believe.” Then there’s that little gold statue she won for Best Actress in Moonstruck (1987). If you really want to be dumbstruck, find Cher’s first flick, Chastity (1969).
